I just read this article, which suggests that slower runners do not have the right to run a marathon, as it takes away from the faster runners. As a slower runner myself, I am naturally a little peeved about the elitist attitude. However I can also understand the point of view of fast runners who feel the marathon should be kept 'pure.'
What does anyone else think?

| I say let the 2 hour marathoners run for 4 hours. See if it diminishes them. Or if they can do it. |

If their only complaint is preserving the "integrity" of the race; I see that as an opinion. There will always be, in any sport, a group of highly competitive and able "elite". Other sports call them MVP's...
Those folks obviously aren't in their way - so, they have to wait a little longer for the awards ceremony...
Most runners are aware, and respectful of course time limits - and I see that point as well.
The problem I have with the article IS the elitist attitude. Did those folks come here with the innate ability to run 2 hour marathons or did they start like the rest of us, one step at a time?
I don't begrudge anyone's ability, but don't admonish others for trying their hardest.
It's not good to forget your roots.

And those "elite" runners are usually the ones that never speak, nod or even give a cordial smile as they are finishing up and you still have well over half of the race yet to tackle. I say........maybe they are missing out on all the FUN!!! _________________ It's not the speed; it's the WILL. |

After mile 20, even some pretty fast runners morph into "plodders."
26.2, any way you can get there is an accomplishment. _________________ "Impossible is a word we created to make ourselves feel better about not trying." |
