I received this email from the Mobile Marathon that I am dreading to run this weekend. I have never run more than 6 or 7 miles when the temperature or wind chill stayed below freezing the entire time. But Sunday's weather forcast for the First Light marathon, which starts at 7:30, is calling for 22'F at 7 and up to low 30's at noon and a 12 mph wind, which means the wind chill will stay below freezing for the entire time that I will be running. Looks like lots of layers and a garbage bag outer layer.

Joe, I think this will be worse than Olathe, but I do get to stay in my motel right up until the race start, because the motel is in the same block as the race start. I had planned to run the Ranch, up in Springfield last weekend, but I chickened out because of the cold weather. And Sunshine, if I was an expectant grand parent, I would definitely skip this one.

Dear Runner / Walker:

Start Time / Weather Advisory

Please be aware that, because of the extreme cold conditions forecast for Sunday, the FLM medical team and the American College of Sports Medicine are advising several precautions for runners.

All runners, especially those who are 60 and above and/or runners with medical conditions and/or slow participants should take heed to the following clothing suggestions:
- Wear several layers of clothing including a windbreaker
- Gloves or tube socks for hands
- Stocking cap
- Extra layers for sensitive areas
- Dress for the middle of the race, not the beginning
- If you start sweating, take off a layer. You should not be sweating heavily in this weather
- Be sure to drink plenty of water and replacement drink as you will be dehydrating even in cold weather

At this time, we DO NOT expect to change the 7:30 AM start time for the Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clothing Drop Off Points

Runners may drop off clothing at any water stop. Course marshals will ensure all clothing will be brought to the finish line no later than the awards ceremony at 2:30. Please mark you clothing for ID purposes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watch for Ice

Please watch for ice on the roads. The course marshals will survey the course prior to the 7:30 AM start to check for hazardous conditions.

I did the LR Marathon in '07 when it started about like that. I DID warm up slightly over freezing, but not by much. Was misery at the start.

RICK are you KIDDING ME?

I can ALWAYS find an excuse when it comes to DINSELL!

In fact, this January windchill/ice fiasco is all Dinsell's fault.

I finished with a time of 4:44. It was cold, but I stayed comfortable. The starting line was at the front door of the hotel that I stayed at. The first couple of water stops were slick from all the dropped cups, but not bad after that. The water was nice & cool. The course showed off Mobile's nicest areas. The road surface was rough in some sections. There was VERY good support & traffic control on the course. And surprisingly, there were alot of residents who came out to the streets to watch & give encouragement on a Cold day. Great hot food at the finish. It's a long 9 hr drive to Mobile.

I taked to some of the 50 Staters & Marathon Maniacs who had run the Mississippi Blues, in Jackson, on Saturday - they said it was much colder in Jackson.

AWESOME JOB, Rick!

No surprise to me--I remember you running a mile with me at the Hogeye--and then you hit a higher gear and left me behind.

uh, WAY behind.
What's next for you?
